The ‘Boro Fun Center

Every town needs a place to hang out, eat, and play games; a place for birthday parties and family fun and good times. Not every town has one, of course, but thanks to this business owner, Murfreesboro, Arkansas does now. We had the privilege of helping to transform her building and making The Boro Fun Center a reality.

Starting with the exterior, we removed the rotten wood siding and replaced it with Smartside® siding:

We removed the old shingle roof and replaced it with galvalume Metal Max® metal:

Time to get inside this building. There was a lot of demolition work to be done before we could get started on creating the new look, including removing paneling from the walls, tearing out most of the interior walls, removing all the old lighting and electrical, and more:

The ceiling was sagging in some places, so we repaired the ceiling structure by adding some beams and joists:

Once all the demo was out of the way, we framed in new interior walls:

We cleaned the interior brick walls:

We installed drywall on the rest of the interior walls, then finished and painted all the drywall:

We framed out the openings in the brick walls and installed plexiglass in the window openings:

On some of the floors we installed Brandon Company® carpet squares, while for other floors we used VCT tile in the pomegranate color:

We installed new exterior doors and new Masonite® interior doors throughout the building:

We installed matte black corrugated metal on most of the ceilings, but on the largest room got a black plastic ceiling:

We built custom cabinets and countertops:

Annnd a quick glimpse of the finished rooms:

Looks like fun, doesn’t it? Wanna go this weekend? I hear they’ve got great pizza!

Home Improvement

Is it just me, or do more people care about improvement than they used to? For some people, it’s themselves they want to improve, for some it’s society, and for some it’s their homes. But it’s harder to improve anything if you think you have to do it all by yourself, and if it’s your home you’re interested in improving, we would be as delighted to work with you as we were with to work with this gentleman. Today, we’re going to be looking at what it took to transform his home from this:

…to this:

First, we installed several new fiberglass exterior doors and painted the exterior sides of them:

Then we also painted the garage door to match:

Before and after of the front entrance transformation:

We replaced windows all over the house with WindowMart® vinyl windows in the Desert Sand color:

And we replaced the screen doors on the back porch:

We replaced the rotten plywood on the back porch ceiling and re-painted the entire ceiling:

Inside, we removed paneling from some walls and installed drywall, as well as re-texturing and re-painting most of the existing drywall on the interior walls and ceilings, using Sherwin Williams® paints:

Back outside, we installed Alside® vinyl siding and coil trim in the Vintage Wicker color over all the wood siding on the house for a more durable and low-maintenance exterior:

We removed the old shingles from the roof and replaced the decking before installing new Owens Corning® Architectural shingles in the Desert Tan color:

We also updated the homeowner’s shop by covering the walls in Alside® vinyl siding, also in the Vintage Wicker color; replacing the the exterior doors; and replacing the shingle roof with Metal Max® metal in the Taupe color:

What would you like to improve? If it’s yourself or society, we might not be the one you want to call today, but if it’s your home or your shop or your place of business, we just might be able to help you out. Call us at (870) 845-1121 and we’ll find out!

Dannie’s Café Addition

Sometimes, even charming little cafés need to grow. Dannie’s Café, far off the beaten path in Shover Springs, AR, started out in a renovated red barn. Within a few years, the delightful atmosphere and the delectable food had drawn enough patrons to necessitate adding space for more tables. They decided to have an addition built.

We installed new flooring in the old part as well as the new, creating a burnt wood floor look in keeping with the rustic barn exterior:
